Wood Plug Builders
When the striped bass population rebounded after the moratorium imposed in the early 80's, a new group of builders emerged. Guys like Big Don, Hab's, and Bob Hahn started building quality custom lures for the angler who wanted the best. They had been preceded by guys like Danny Pichney, Donny Musso, Bob Pond and Stan Gibbs.
Since 2000, many custom builders have began to sell their work. I call these guys the "young guns", and two of the best, in my opinion, are Ryan Smith of Western New York State and Mike "Tattoo" Dauphin of Rhode Island. I always have a few of their plugs in my bag.
9/23/07 - The surf community lost one of it's ambassadors with the passing of John Haberek. RIP John - you will never be forgotten.
9/13/08 - 10 days to the year, the surf community has lost another one of it's most important members Gary Hull. Gary fought cancer for years. He was a true tiger and one of the kindest people I have had the pleasure to meet. My sincerest condolonces to Barb and family.
