I first came across RM Smith's work on Joe Lyon's web site, Surfcasting
Rhode Island. As soon as I saw Ryan's work, I wanted some. There was
one small problem, Ryan's plugs had already been pulled off the site
(sold out). The details are fuzzy but I do remember I was able to get
one plug from Joe, a one ounce chartreuse scale over pearl.
I
now have over eight dozen of RM Smith's plugs and always have a few with
me. They are not only visibly spectacular, they swim beautifully, and
are constructed extremely well.
Ryan
puts a lot of work into each plug and you can see it in the finished
product. Ryan could easily charge more, but he chooses not too. His
goal is to produce a high quality product with a reasonable price.
Ryan
presently offers several swimmers in various sizes and jointed models,
as well as a killer Danny plug I begged him to start making after
fishing one :)
Ryan introduced the "Surf Strider" below, in May 2007. It is unlike any other plug I have fished.
